International Day of Children Rights

2009 marks the 20th anniversary of Universal Children's Day. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world.20 November is celebrated as the international day for children. The United Nations General Assembly recommended in 1954 (resolution 836 (IX)) that all countries institute a Universal Children's Day, to be observed as a day of understanding between children and of activity promoting the welfare of the world's children. The date of 20 November marks the day on which the Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

For that day, all partner schools created videos where children say the rights they voted in their language. Each school picked up one of the seven rights to draw it and sent it to their partners. In that way all partners hold the same drawings in the videos, the drawings of their friends! Children have rights and we all agree to that, watch our common video:

International Saving Day in Greece

OUR MONEY BANK FOR THE CHILDREN IN NEED

The World Savings Day was established on 31 of October during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks) in Milano/Italy. The Italian Professor Ravizza declared this day the "International Saving Day" on the last day of the congress.
Representatives of 29 countries wanted to bring to mind the thought of saving to the worldwide public and its relevance to the economy and the individual. The World Savings Day is usually held on October 31st except in countries where this day is a public holiday, since the idea is for the banks to be open, so that the people are able to transfer their savings into their account.
In Greece, we made piggy banks for and one for the school!!In school we decided to gather money for helping children in need. We hope our partners will follow our idea and we ALL help other children!!

Celebrating International Food Day in Greece (16 October)

World Food Day was proclaimed in 1979 by the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It marks the date of the founding of FAO in 1945. The aim of the Day is to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. In 1980, the General Assembly endorsed observance of the Day in consideration of the fact that "food is a requisite for human survival and well-being and a fundamental human necessity" Here in Greece, we are known for our grapes! We make tasty wines but use the must to make different products. The International Food day,we decided to make cookies with must, we call them moustokouloura and are really tasty and healthy! You can hear a traditional children song which is called "Platho koulourakia" which means make cookies!

International Day of Food, a Recipe from England!

We have chosen a delicious recipe from England to share with you - this is something we all like to eat here! We chose a piece of music to go with our recipe presentation called 'Pomp and Circumstance' or as we call it, 'Land of hope and Glory'. This is a very English piece of music, and it is a tune that lots of English people like to sing along to. We also think it makes our recipe sound very exciting! We hope you enjoy finding out how to make our treats, and that you enjoy making them yourselves!
